Grant fills training gap
Grant Nuske, who is Relationship Manager, Major Client Group for BankSA, made skills development his personal mission in his Young Business Leaders project.
“The idea came from the results of a Divisional Staff Survey completed just prior to me starting the program, where staff identified the areas of training and succession planning as key areas for improvement,” Grant says.
“On behalf of my department I attended a post-survey workshop to discuss the survey findings and nominated myself to assist with improving training, development and succession planning of fellow staff members.”
It took Grant two to three months to set up the program – which won rave reviews. Then the world changed and priorities shifted somewhat as the world climate hit the financial services sector hard.
“Resistance came post-implementation in the form of a change in scope of the project as a result of the dynamic environment I was working in, which saw considerable change in the working environment,” Grant says.
“After I began my project the banking industry generally went through considerable change in light of the Global Financial Crisis. Our organisation encountered further change as it went through a merger; its parent entity St George merged with Westpac.
“This saw changes evolve as training topics and priorities were amended and stakeholders and participants changed.
