Adelaide trains Singapore’s risk takers
The University of Adelaide’s push to deliver Entrepreneurship as a subject now has a thriving export program operating in Singapore, where students are seizing the chance to learn how to overcome the barriers to new ventures before taking the plunge.
“Entrepreneurship is a mix of economics, psychology, social savvy and innovation, coupled with knowing how to transform ideas into action,” says Gary Hancock, who is Undergraduate Director at The University of Adelaide’s Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre.
Gary oversees the Entrepreneurship programs both locally in Adelaide and overseas at the Singapore campus, which is part of the University of Adelaide.
“The eChallenge (student entrepreneur program) went really well last year - from memory 74 teams of students entered the Singapore program. We have the winning Singapore eChallenge team visiting Adelaide in April.”
ECIC makes the point that entrepreneurship and innovation is vital in creating new ventures “no matter whether it is in a large corporation, a new business, a not-for-profit, or community organisation”.
The Bachelor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship degree program is divided into several courses. It’s designed to accommodate working students and can be completed in 18 months, full time or longer on a part time basis.
