Wallmans shifts legal centre of gravity
After more than 30 years in Wakefield Street, Wallmans Lawyers has again led a move to broaden the core Adelaide CBD by relocating to the southern end of King William Street.
“When we moved to Wakefield Street in the mid- 1970s it was considered unusual because we were defying convention that major legal practices needed to be located within the city’s commercial centre, which in those days stretched about 500m from the Town Hall,” says Wallmans’ General Manager, Catherine Schultz.
“Now we’re doing it again with our move to 400 King William Street. We want to retain the level of convenience for our clients and staff and decentralize from the city’s busy legal hub.
“However, this time we’ve chosen the southern precinct of the city, which still provides close proximity to the courts but provides greater on and off-street parking and general accessibility.
“Wallmans is not alone in choosing to decentralize and no doubt this will affect not only the perception of the boundaries of the CBD, but also its corporate culture as more businesses choose frame locations inside the parklands boundary.”
Developed by local developer Kyren Group, the $100 million 400 King William Street building provides 21,500sqm of office accommodation over 10 upper levels. A multi deck car park providing more than 500 car park spaces has already been constructed to the rear of the development.
