Thomson Playford’s Sydney move
Adelaide ‘big four’ law firm Thomson Playford opened its first interstate branch office in Sydney in June, in Australia Square at the heart of that city’s CBD.
“By establishing a base in Sydney, we will be able to better service existing client needs in Sydney and offer a more effective and efficient national service to Adelaide-based clients,” says Thomson Playford chief executive, Juliet Brown.
Some of the firms most respected partners and associates will be based in the Sydney office, but maintaining an Adelaide administrative base would enable Thomson Playford to offer a lower fee structure than New South Wales firms.
The firm had contemplated the move for some time, judging that the time would be right when a ”cultural fit” between the offices was possible. Thomson Playford headhunted leading Sydney litigator, Mark Bielecki, formerly of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, to provide the local knowledge required. Taxation expert Ken Schurgott and Jamie Restas will also be on the Sydney team.
Finsbury grows to Melbourne
Respected Adelaide printer Finsbury has expanded its operations to Melbourne by acquiring local firm AC Tod Printing Pty Ltd.
All current staff at AC Tod were retained as Finsbury pursues a policy of national expansion by acquisition in strategic areas.
“…it is clear they are a group of committed professionals and a genuine asset of the business,” states the firm’s publication Finsbury Standard.
“Both Finsbury and AC Tod use the same management information software system, PRISM, which will enable us to provide prompt service and maximise communication,” Finsbury says.
“A major systems integration program has already commenced with the benefits flowing through to customers, staff and suppliers through the balance of the year.”
