IT Council Fosters 14 Member Associations
The IT Council took its origins from a business plan drawn up in 1999 by South Australian IT industry leaders as a means of focusing a rather diffuse sector.
Funded to the tune of $200,000 per annum for a three-year term, the Council was set up as the rather unglamorous Information Industry Development Group.
“We started out with nine member associations and now have 14,” says the IT Council’s executive director, Denis Wall. “More importantly we are endeavouring to represent an ICT industry of over 1,000 companies and 30,000 people”
The Council’s database includes more than 1000 ICT industry CEOs and 800 ICT companies, which is currently being developed into a public-access directory. There are now 260 live listings on the Council’s website.
The State’s International Advisory Panel on the Information Economy, chaired by Silcon Graphics supremo, Bob Bishop, is an integral source of guidance.
Part of the Council’s action plan for 2001-2002 was to workshop 50 industry leaders to determine what their objectives for the industry were.
The prime objective was to make the most of the World Congress of IT opportunity. Denis is pleased to report that the fallout from WCIT (February 2002) is ongoing, with local companies still picking up work from delegates. The Council is ramping up to attend the 2004 WCIT in Athens.
